HOW to WRITE better

Colossians 3:23

King James Version

23 And whatsoever ye do,

do it heartily,

as to the Lord,

and not unto men;

Having writer's block?

Things aren't coming to form?

Words seem elusive?

Don't quite know how to approach the matter?

How does one conquer all these?

First, RELAX.

BREATHE.

If you're not a writer, then don't be.

Accept that you're not.

That ought to keep the stress off.

So what if others seem to have an easy way with words?

So what if their vocabulary makes your head spin?

So what if they get all the awards and rewards?

Would GOD judge you if you can't seem to piece words together?

Look how Moses was.

He admitted he was not a good speaker.

As if that would stop GOD's plans for His prophet.

GOD told him:

Exodus 7:1-2

King James Version

7 And the Lord said unto Moses,

See,

I have made thee a god to Pharaoh:

and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.

2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee:

and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh,

that he send the children of Israel out of his land.

Problem solved.

Is anything too difficult for GOD?

Matthew 19:26

King James Version

26 But Jesus beheld them,

and said unto them,

With men this is impossible;

but with God all things are possible.

Second, lay out any problem with GOD.

If you are a believer in His SON, and you seek Him with all your heart, watch what GOD can do.

You just have to have faith.

Accept who you're not.

Accept who you are.

GOD created you for a purpose.

His purpose cannot be denied.

It cannot be defiled, nor despised.

Sure, I am blessed to have an ability with words.

But do I use fancy words?

Nope.

That would be pure ego.

TRUE born agains don't have ego.

If JESUS didn't have any, why would we?

We only have GOD.

We only have JESUS.

We only have the HOLY SPIRIT.

SPIRIT teaches us how to be.

Who cares if your words are simple?

That doesn't necessarily mean you're a simpleton.

Maybe, you're a TON of useful simplicity.

Knowing what matters most.

GOD is all that matters most.

That you are in His service.

Be not conformed to the world.

Romans 12:2

King James Version

2 And be not conformed to this world:

but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is that good,

and acceptable,

and perfect, will of God.

The world will always mold you to conform.

Its got standards, which don't necessarily reflect GOD's laws.

Be grateful you can think at all.

Be grateful you can speak at all.

Be grateful you can write at all.

Be grateful for everything.

Third?

Write simply.

Of course, if you're going to write a technical paper, say you're an engineer, naturally, you'll be using technical terms.

Still, you can use all those terms, and yet piece your sentences simply.

Use short sentences.

Use bullet points.

Come up with a short summary, or conclusion.

No need to do what everyone else does.

You know, like publishing a 200-page journal, on the merits of one screw.

Now, that's really losing one's screws.

And I will just bolt out of there.

P.S. I did write a super simple book on writing (c. 2016).

Click this link and have a look.

GOD bless!

TRANSFORMING the TONE

John 4:24

King James Version

24 God is a Spirit:

and they that worship him

must worship him in spirit and in truth.

How to transform the tone of your writing?

How to make your writing pure, perfect, precise, and powerful?

SPIRIT guided me to the idea, from an earlier post.

He guided me to tell you this:

PRETEND you're WRITING to GOD.

How could that be?

How can it not be?

Scripture says:

Genesis 2:7

King James Version

7 And the Lord God formed man

of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.

Job 33:4

King James Version

4 The spirit of God hath made me,

and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Those verses testify, that the SPIRIT of GOD is in us.

He breathed life into us.

If we want our writing to be transformed, let's pretend we're writing to the SPIRIT of GOD, in each one of us.

That ought to transform the tone of our writing.

There will be love.

There will be respect.

There will be kindness.

Actually, do so, in EVERYTHING we think, say, and do.

Let us WALK in the SPIRIT, and it shall be so.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

King James Version

19 What?

know ye not that your body

is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,

which ye have of God,

and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price:

therefore glorify God in your body,

and in your spirit,

which are God's.

WORDS as TAPESTRY

Colossians 2:2-4

King James Version

2 That their hearts might be comforted,

being knit together in love,

and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding,

to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God,

and of the Father,

and of Christ;

3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

4 And this I say,

lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

A bunch of words form a phrase.

Words and phrases form sentences.

Sentences create paragraphs.

Paragraphs create letters, chapters, books.

Books create libraries.

Libraries produce learning.

Do you see the beauty of just one word, then?

Pretty much like a dollar needs a cent.

A nation needs people.

A teacher needs students.

We all need each other.

A whole comes from one unit.

A tapestry was woven from threads -- grown, dyed, separated, woven together.

Ever heard of the following?

"Threads of thought."

"A weaving of words."

The source of everything was God.

In the beginning, there was nothing.

The earth was void.

Genesis 1:1-2

King James Version

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form,

and void;

and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And then God spoke the FIRST words:

Genesis 1:3

King James Version

3 And God said,

Let there be light:

and there was light.

And yet, how could God not create with His Word?

He was the WORD.

Everything started from God.

John 1:1-4

King James Version

1 In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him;

and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life;

and the life was the light of men.

So, how could man take out God from his writing?

God is owner, master, and author of words, apart from being the WORD Himself.

The whole Bible is His Word.

Until such time man acknowledges God, the TRUE author of life, man can be as nothing.

His work, his writing, will fall flat.

For it doesn't have God in it.

But mine does!

Psalm 119:130

King James Version

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light;

it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Only through the Holy Spirit of God am I able to produce dozens of blogs, and tons of articles.

For as workman for the Lord, I care only to share His truth -- through Scripture.

By myself, I would not be able to understand Scripture easily.

But by the GRACE of GOD, He lets His Spirit teach me effortlessly.

1 Corinthians 2:10

King James Version

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit:

for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea,

the deep things of God.

Night and day, we're at it.

Weaving God's verses into something which would share His precious Word.

My Bible teacher did call my work a "writing ministry".

I'm just an open heart for God's Word to flow freely.

Only His truth must surface.

And His truth is crystal clear.

Only because He made me born again.

Once I was born again, His Spirit started teaching me lovingly, precisely, and speedily.

When you write for God, and are guided by His Spirit, expect CLARITY.

1 Corinthians 14:33

King James Version

33 For God is not the author of confusion,

but of peace,

as in all churches of the saints.

The path is clear.

The direction is clear.

All is determined by Spirit.

Isaiah 30:21

King James Version

21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying,

This is the way,

walk ye in it,

when ye turn to the right hand,

and when ye turn to the left.

If you're a writer, still writing from your own steam, you will produce things from ego.

You will work for the world.

I work for God.

Working for God means you can't have pride, or ego.

Colossians 3:1-2

King James Version

3 If ye then be risen with Christ,

seek those things which are above,

where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above,

not on things on the earth.

For you surrender your will, to His.

Only His will must survive.

And then, you will marvel at what Spirit can make you do.

For GOD's honor, and GLORY.

1 Corinthians 10:31

King James Version

31 Whether therefore ye eat,

or drink,

or whatsoever ye do,

do all to the glory of God.

That's really the objective of working and writing for God.

You are given the ability to easily weave thoughts, ideas, and words, with relevant verses, as inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Your writing will have real value to the world.

Being born again -- surrendering my will to God, believing and following the path set out by Jesus, and listening closely to the Holy Spirit's prompts -- has given spiritual quality to my work.

It's work I can offer back to God, without shame.

Romans 1:16

King James Version

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:

for it is the power of God unto salvation

to every one that believeth;

to the Jew first,

and also to the Greek.

You have to have real love for the Lord.

You have to trust Him completely.

Now, I only listen to the Lord.

And my work fulfills my spirit, and surely, God is pleased, too.

Otherwise, Spirit would have stopped inspiring me to weave from Scripture.

So far, we've been at it for nearly 30 months now.

I cannot bear to fall out of His grace.

So I do my best not to fall.

I won't tell you to give Spirit a chance.

He is our ONLY chance.

On choosing WORDS

John 1:1

King James Version

1 In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

Why must we choose our words carefully?

Why must every word be of God?

That John verse says it all.

The Word started with God.

He is the Word.

As such, every word we have must reflect God in our heart.

Hollywood has erred so much, with her cuss words, and using the Lord's name in vain.

Surely you know that our Lord's name has been bandied about carelessly, heartlessly, used as an expletive, almost at every turn.

As if it's hip to do so.

It's not, for God's name is sacred.

Exodus 20:7

King James Version

7 Thou shalt not take

the name of the Lord thy God in vain;

for the Lord will not hold him guiltless

that taketh his name in vain.

These are the words we must respect:

God.

Jesus.

Holy Spirit.

Scripture teach us what words matter to God.

To know how many words (not necessarily God's Word) there are in the world, here's a list of it.

Of course, only those born again can really respect God's Word, for the Holy Spirit becomes your teacher.

He will be the source for ALL words that honor God.

You can't possibly go wrong if you are God's.

Every word in writing or speaking, is given careful attention, making sure it pleases the Lord.

That is the work of a born again -- to serve the Lord, to be obedient to His will, to be instructed only by the Lord.

Well, this blog was created and inspired by SPIRIT, so I'm really careful what words I use, and publish.

I really want to get GOD's WORD right.

Thus, the use of Scripture, to support every thought or idea I have, or was led to.

I must never work from self.

All self has been offered to God.

It's the Holy Spirit who produces the words for me, knowing I love word play.

So we get to play a lot with words, reflecting the intelligence of Spirit alone.

He is the Teacher of all things, and I merely follow His prompts and inspiration.

Become born again, and never again will you fail with words, whether with choice, or delivery.

You will become the work piece, and mouth piece, of the Lord.

And that's really all I care about.

I cannot cause anyone to err.

My words must reflect only what the Holy Spirit chose.

Every word must reflect the Spirit of God in me.

Every word must speak of His power.

Every word must reflect His love.

Every word must be of God.

It is for His GLORY alone.

To know how fast the Holy Spirit works, like in my particular case (not of my power), we wrote this piece in practically 11 minutes.

Yup*, it's that fast.

And precise.

*Is "yup" found in God's dictionary?

I guess the Lord allows me a few of those modern-day words.

He knows I have a playful heart, and allows me to use a few of those words for emphasis.

At least, it's not a cuss word.

The SECRET to better writing

Ephesians 4:29

King James Version

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed

out of your mouth,

but that which is good to the use of edifying,

that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Read you material out loud.

That's the simple secret to writing better.

When you start hearing your own voice, and words, you'll either cringe, or rejoice.

Then you can make adjustments to your work, so you can deliver something really clear, simple, and precise.

It just felt right to read my material out loud to myself.

I needed to hear what I had written.

Lo and behold, I caught my mistakes on time!

Written material sounds so different when spoken out loud.

Try it.

Will surely make a marked improvement in your writing.

Others may want to record themselves, so they can play it back.

I'm quite happy just reading my material out loud, without disturbing people around me, and making quick corrections.

I really have very simple methods.

They work for me.

WRITE with heart

1 Corinthians 13:1

King James Version

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,

and have not charity,

I am become as sounding brass,

or a tinkling cymbal.

I used to write with art.

Now, as a born again, I write with heart.

Self has gone.

Evaporated.

Poof!

Only God remains.

And rightfully so!

Now, my writing has taken on new power, only because the Holy Spirit directs every thought, word, or move.

And now, I can share with you my new knowledge in Christ, too.

Before Christ, my writing was good enough.

After Christ?

My writing zoomed to greater heights, for the glory of God.

Why all this talk about God?

Why must our writing have God in it?

Who, and what is God?

Ah, great question!

1 John 4:8

King James Version

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God;

for God is love.

Thing is, unless you're born again, you cannot possibly imagine the enormity of God's love.

You will still be of the world, and the world and God are not one.

Only by being gifted with the Holy Spirit, can you learn many things of Christ.

Your life will improve.

Your work will improve.

Your writing will be of God.

Things will become clearer to you.

Everything will breathe of Christ.

Writing becomes just one avenue, for God to live in you.

Oh, that rhymes!

Let's make a poem out of it.

Writing becomes just one avenue,

for God to live in you.

You see what I mean?

The old me couldn't have produced that kind of material.

My writing flows beautifully now, only because I have drunk from the well offered by the Lord Jesus.

John 4:14

King James Version

14 But whosoever drinketh

of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;

but the water that I shall give him

shall be in him a well of water

springing up into everlasting life.

Every word becomes important.

Words gather together beautifully to serve God, for a born again.

In the process of serving God, you serve others better, for God is in your heart.

You become a true child of God, obedient to His will.

If your desire is simply to write well, you can, and you will be able to -- but you will still serve the fallible, corrupt world.

But if your desire is to write things pleasing to the Lord, you must become born again.

John 3:5-7

King James Version

5 Jesus answered,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh;

and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

Unless you follow the Lord's command, your writing will be of the world, and thus, not of Christ.

Now that you know God is love, you cannot treat writing with heart, as a plain chore.

If you do, you will get plain results.

Or maybe, no results at all.

Only because you have no idea what God can really do.

You have no idea what clarity God can give you.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV)

33 For God is not the author of confusion,

but of peace,

as in all churches of the saints.

WRITING with SPIRIT
