Have MERCY on your READERS

Dear GOD,

I beg you to spare us from vain men,

who show off their knowledge in this world.

Let them have mercy on us poor people,

who are drowning in information.

Why do I write short sentences?

Almost like bullet points?

Because I take mercy on you, my reader.

I know you have much to read each day.

Why would I make it hard for you to read?

I don't have the heart to write long paragraphs.

That go beyond your peripheral vision.

I don't have the heart to dishonor GOD, who made the Bible so easy to read.

Of course, it becomes easy to read, only because His SPIRIT is in the true born again.

That's the only way we can really understand the Bible.

That's the only way I can write this way.

I, a lover of words, who once dreaded the "word comprehension" part of our college entrance exams.

Pressed for time, you went nuts trying to figure out the extra long paragraphs given you.

Hoping you got it right.

Even as the paragraphs seem vain, and garbled.

Mercifully, I passed those exams.

Mercifully, word comprehension was but part of it.

Spatial exams were mighty easier for me.

(BONUSClick this link to test your spatial ability.

Don't worry, it's a super short test.)

Tthe HOLY SPIRIT taught me to think, study, write, and share, in the simplest way.

GOD knows I like to teach simply.

It's the born again way to be.

I've been where you are.

I know the pitfalls of trying to understand a vain society.

That keeps you pretty much in the dark, anyway.

GOD is simple to understand.

Exodus 20:1-3

King James Version

20 And God spake all these words,

saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God,

which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt,

out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Only a wicked heart would refuse to learn.

The Bible is proof of GOD's love, and magnificence.

Our go-to, in times of trouble.

Our guide, in times of peace.

Sure, the book is thick, but GOD has a lovely way of teaching His people.

And that's for another post.

SPIRIT and I care about you, thus, we created our 45th blog on "WORD comprehension".

Nothing scholarly about our work.

Pride is an abomination to GOD.

LOVE is not.

TRANSFORMING the TONE

John 4:24

King James Version

24 God is a Spirit:

and they that worship him

must worship him in spirit and in truth.

How to transform the tone of your writing?

How to make your writing pure, perfect, precise, and powerful?

SPIRIT guided me to the idea, from an earlier post.

He guided me to tell you this:

PRETEND you're WRITING to GOD.

How could that be?

How can it not be?

Scripture says:

Genesis 2:7

King James Version

7 And the Lord God formed man

of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.

Job 33:4

King James Version

4 The spirit of God hath made me,

and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Those verses testify, that the SPIRIT of GOD is in us.

He breathed life into us.

If we want our writing to be transformed, let's pretend we're writing to the SPIRIT of GOD, in each one of us.

That ought to transform the tone of our writing.

There will be love.

There will be respect.

There will be kindness.

Actually, do so, in EVERYTHING we think, say, and do.

Let us WALK in the SPIRIT, and it shall be so.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

King James Version

19 What?

know ye not that your body

is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,

which ye have of God,

and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price:

therefore glorify God in your body,

and in your spirit,

which are God's.

On WEAVING articles with EASE

Psalm 119:130

King James Version

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light;

it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Only through the Holy Spirit of God am I able to produce dozens of blogs, and tons of articles.

For as workman for the Lord, I care only to share His truth -- through Scripture.

By myself, I would not be able to understand Scripture easily.

But by the GRACE of GOD, He lets His Spirit teach me effortlessly.

1 Corinthians 2:10

King James Version

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit:

for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea,

the deep things of God.

Night and day, we're at it.

Weaving God's verses into something which would share His precious Word.

My Bible teacher did call my work a "writing ministry".

I'm just an open heart for God's Word to flow freely.

Only His truth must surface.

And His truth is crystal clear.

Only because He made me born again.

Once I was born again, His Spirit started teaching me lovingly, precisely, and speedily.

When you write for God, and are guided by His Spirit, expect CLARITY.

1 Corinthians 14:33

King James Version

33 For God is not the author of confusion,

but of peace,

as in all churches of the saints.

The path is clear.

The direction is clear.

All is determined by Spirit.

Isaiah 30:21

King James Version

21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying,

This is the way,

walk ye in it,

when ye turn to the right hand,

and when ye turn to the left.

If you're a writer, still writing from your own steam, you will produce things from ego.

You will work for the world.

I work for God.

Working for God means you can't have pride, or ego.

Colossians 3:1-2

King James Version

3 If ye then be risen with Christ,

seek those things which are above,

where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above,

not on things on the earth.

For you surrender your will, to His.

Only His will must survive.

And then, you will marvel at what Spirit can make you do.

For GOD's honor, and GLORY.

1 Corinthians 10:31

King James Version

31 Whether therefore ye eat,

or drink,

or whatsoever ye do,

do all to the glory of God.

That's really the objective of working and writing for God.

You are given the ability to easily weave thoughts, ideas, and words, with relevant verses, as inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Your writing will have real value to the world.

Being born again -- surrendering my will to God, believing and following the path set out by Jesus, and listening closely to the Holy Spirit's prompts -- has given spiritual quality to my work.

It's work I can offer back to God, without shame.

Romans 1:16

King James Version

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:

for it is the power of God unto salvation

to every one that believeth;

to the Jew first,

and also to the Greek.

You have to have real love for the Lord.

You have to trust Him completely.

Now, I only listen to the Lord.

And my work fulfills my spirit, and surely, God is pleased, too.

Otherwise, Spirit would have stopped inspiring me to weave from Scripture.

So far, we've been at it for nearly 30 months now.

I cannot bear to fall out of His grace.

So I do my best not to fall.

I won't tell you to give Spirit a chance.

He is our ONLY chance.

On choosing WORDS

John 1:1

King James Version

1 In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

Why must we choose our words carefully?

Why must every word be of God?

That John verse says it all.

The Word started with God.

He is the Word.

As such, every word we have must reflect God in our heart.

Hollywood has erred so much, with her cuss words, and using the Lord's name in vain.

Surely you know that our Lord's name has been bandied about carelessly, heartlessly, used as an expletive, almost at every turn.

As if it's hip to do so.

It's not, for God's name is sacred.

Exodus 20:7

King James Version

7 Thou shalt not take

the name of the Lord thy God in vain;

for the Lord will not hold him guiltless

that taketh his name in vain.

These are the words we must respect:

God.

Jesus.

Holy Spirit.

Scripture teach us what words matter to God.

To know how many words (not necessarily God's Word) there are in the world, here's a list of it.

Of course, only those born again can really respect God's Word, for the Holy Spirit becomes your teacher.

He will be the source for ALL words that honor God.

You can't possibly go wrong if you are God's.

Every word in writing or speaking, is given careful attention, making sure it pleases the Lord.

That is the work of a born again -- to serve the Lord, to be obedient to His will, to be instructed only by the Lord.

Well, this blog was created and inspired by SPIRIT, so I'm really careful what words I use, and publish.

I really want to get GOD's WORD right.

Thus, the use of Scripture, to support every thought or idea I have, or was led to.

I must never work from self.

All self has been offered to God.

It's the Holy Spirit who produces the words for me, knowing I love word play.

So we get to play a lot with words, reflecting the intelligence of Spirit alone.

He is the Teacher of all things, and I merely follow His prompts and inspiration.

Become born again, and never again will you fail with words, whether with choice, or delivery.

You will become the work piece, and mouth piece, of the Lord.

And that's really all I care about.

I cannot cause anyone to err.

My words must reflect only what the Holy Spirit chose.

Every word must reflect the Spirit of God in me.

Every word must speak of His power.

Every word must reflect His love.

Every word must be of God.

It is for His GLORY alone.

To know how fast the Holy Spirit works, like in my particular case (not of my power), we wrote this piece in practically 11 minutes.

Yup*, it's that fast.

And precise.

*Is "yup" found in God's dictionary?

I guess the Lord allows me a few of those modern-day words.

He knows I have a playful heart, and allows me to use a few of those words for emphasis.

At least, it's not a cuss word.

The SECRET to better writing

Ephesians 4:29

King James Version

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed

out of your mouth,

but that which is good to the use of edifying,

that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Read you material out loud.

That's the simple secret to writing better.

When you start hearing your own voice, and words, you'll either cringe, or rejoice.

Then you can make adjustments to your work, so you can deliver something really clear, simple, and precise.

It just felt right to read my material out loud to myself.

I needed to hear what I had written.

Lo and behold, I caught my mistakes on time!

Written material sounds so different when spoken out loud.

Try it.

Will surely make a marked improvement in your writing.

Others may want to record themselves, so they can play it back.

I'm quite happy just reading my material out loud, without disturbing people around me, and making quick corrections.

I really have very simple methods.

They work for me.

WRITE with heart

1 Corinthians 13:1

King James Version

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,

and have not charity,

I am become as sounding brass,

or a tinkling cymbal.

I used to write with art.

Now, as a born again, I write with heart.

Self has gone.

Evaporated.

Poof!

Only God remains.

And rightfully so!

Now, my writing has taken on new power, only because the Holy Spirit directs every thought, word, or move.

And now, I can share with you my new knowledge in Christ, too.

Before Christ, my writing was good enough.

After Christ?

My writing zoomed to greater heights, for the glory of God.

Why all this talk about God?

Why must our writing have God in it?

Who, and what is God?

Ah, great question!

1 John 4:8

King James Version

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God;

for God is love.

Thing is, unless you're born again, you cannot possibly imagine the enormity of God's love.

You will still be of the world, and the world and God are not one.

Only by being gifted with the Holy Spirit, can you learn many things of Christ.

Your life will improve.

Your work will improve.

Your writing will be of God.

Things will become clearer to you.

Everything will breathe of Christ.

Writing becomes just one avenue, for God to live in you.

Oh, that rhymes!

Let's make a poem out of it.

Writing becomes just one avenue,

for God to live in you.

You see what I mean?

The old me couldn't have produced that kind of material.

My writing flows beautifully now, only because I have drunk from the well offered by the Lord Jesus.

John 4:14

King James Version

14 But whosoever drinketh

of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;

but the water that I shall give him

shall be in him a well of water

springing up into everlasting life.

Every word becomes important.

Words gather together beautifully to serve God, for a born again.

In the process of serving God, you serve others better, for God is in your heart.

You become a true child of God, obedient to His will.

If your desire is simply to write well, you can, and you will be able to -- but you will still serve the fallible, corrupt world.

But if your desire is to write things pleasing to the Lord, you must become born again.

John 3:5-7

King James Version

5 Jesus answered,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh;

and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

Unless you follow the Lord's command, your writing will be of the world, and thus, not of Christ.

Now that you know God is love, you cannot treat writing with heart, as a plain chore.

If you do, you will get plain results.

Or maybe, no results at all.

Only because you have no idea what God can really do.

You have no idea what clarity God can give you.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV)

33 For God is not the author of confusion,

but of peace,

as in all churches of the saints.

WRITE short sentences

John 10:30

King James Version

30 I and my Father are one.

Jesus said that.

"I and my Father are one."

High impact, right?

That's how your sentences must be.

Be a man of few words, but get the job done.

Remember when our parents would get angry?

One look, and we got it.

They didn't even have to speak.

Plus, our conscience knew trouble was forthcoming.

Remember the telegram of the old days?

If you don't, you weren't born then.

But I did receive one, or two.

During my time, they came in a tiny plastic envelope.

The words were few.

Peppered by the word "STOP", so you knew where the sentences ended.

You'd know if you received a telegram, that it was important.

And they weren't that cheap either, so not many people sent it, unlike how we write emails now.

Potential spam.

But that's how you must write compellingly.

Write short sentences.

You've only got nano seconds to invite the attention of your reader.

Don't grab; invite.

You're not a thief.

You don't accost people when you write.

Have respect, my dear readers.

Be respectful of your reader's time.

Be respectful of their intelligence.

Focus on the real message you intend to send, and support your statements with clear, concise facts.

Make it fun, happy, if need be.

Don't cause panic.

Don't cause fear.

Don't threaten.

Don't manipulate.

Remember, you are writing to the SPIRIT of God in each person.

Treat people with kindness, and respect.

You can imagine what happens when you write long sentences, or novellas.

People's attention glaze over, they may even junk your email, or brand it spam.

Or they may be so disgusted, they'd delete it.

Of course, it depends what you're writing, who you are, and who your readers are.

If they're fans, they'll read anything you write, whether you make sense or not.

If it's for business, information, or even courting purposes, have mercy on your readers.

It's no time for ego.

Keep your sentences short, direct, factual, and respectful.

Write with love in your heart.

Be a loving person.

Short sentences show love.

Not necessarily a lack of intelligence.

More about confidence in the next post.

The TOTAL package

Luke 10:27

King James Version

27 And he answering said,

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,

and with all thy soul,

and with all thy strength,

and with all thy mind;

and thy neighbour as thyself.

What to consider before you write a whole letter, a book, or a lecture?

First, who will your reader be?

When will you write, or send it?

Timing is everything

Start with a compelling introduction.

Ask a question, perhaps?

Fascinate the reader, or listener.

Then start explaining briefly in the body.

Support your statements with factual material.

Even humorous material, if need be.

Keep all details related to each other.

Keep facts simple, and straightforward.

We did say, your readers may be busy, too.

Don't overdo the supporting material.

Choose the ones that say it best.

Depending on what you're writing about, you may need to include images, maps, graphs.

Show respect for your reader by presenting clear material.

Perhaps, your letter is but an introduction to more material?

Then keep that letter brief, and precise, but interesting.

Close by repeating what you said in the introduction.

As you got into the body, perhaps, your readers got lost along the way.

Gently call them back in, with your closing.

That reinstates what you wanted in the first place.

Consider the introduction, and closing, the real object of your writing.

The body merely fills in the details.

Others would say to focus on the body.

If your introduction isn't interesting, would your readers bother getting to the body of your presentation?

Like SPIRIT and I say, keep it simple, clear, and direct.

And yes, honest.

Don't sugar-coat what is bitter.

Refuse to be boring.

The next post will show you how to be interesting.

HOW to write compelling material

2 Corinthians 1:12

King James Version

12 For our rejoicing is this,

the testimony of our conscience,

that in simplicity and godly sincerity,

not with fleshly wisdom,

but by the grace of God,

we have had our conversation in the world,

and more abundantly to you-ward.

What is compelling material?

It's the kind that makes you go, "WOW!"

It's the kind that glues your reader to what you've written.

It's the kind that produces positive action, toward the action you designed your material for.

Pretend God is your coach (and I hope He really is), and you will write lovingly, and respectfully.

Care about your reader.

Write simply, and clearly.

If you're into creative writing, it could be humorous, even crazy.

If you're into professional writing, all the more keep it clear, simple, and factual -- but not boring.

Short bursts of information help.

Like bullet points.

Enumerate, by numbering your ideas.

Keep the numbers low.

We wouldn't want to make our readers throw up.

Insert at least one appropriate image.

Your image must match the tone, and content.

I know you know what I mean.

Everything has to be consistent, and appropriate.

Simple, and direct.

Pretend wee're all writing for busy folks.

Because we just might be.

It's the digital age, people get distracted easily.

We're only given nano-seconds to compel our readers to pay attention.

Why not with a cool, short, memorable title?

Make it easy to understand.

Remember...nano seconds...

More on the total package on the next post.

WRITE simply

Psalm 116:6

King James Version

6 The Lord preserveth the simple:

I was brought low,

and he helped me.

Don't be afraid to write.

Don't scare yourself.

Think simple.

Think friendly.

Think happy.

Think God.

That's how it is to start writing.

There's nothing to prove to anyone.

Just write from your heart.

Go straight to the point.

Speak in your own voice.

Don't be who you're not.

Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to pull it off.

People can smell that.

Who is your audience?

Don't forget who you're writing for.

What is your aim?

To inform?

To sell?

To persuade?

To impress?

To show off?

To put down?

To criticize?

To collect?

I hope your aim is to LOVE.

That's what this blog is for.

JESUS taught us to love.

Let's write love letters, conduct loving lectures, speaking gently as we write, or attempt to communicate.

Pretend you're writing to GOD.

Pretend you're showing God what you know.

Pretend you're presenting something to the Lord.

Let GOD be your first reader.

That ought to transform the tone of your writing.
